We left our hotel Thursday morning and started our LONG journey down the Carolina coast. We had this great idea that we would take a "scenic" route down the coast and leave time to stop in any of the cute, little beach towns. Well, we underestimated the amount of time this journey would take and it turned out to be a pretty "memorable" day. Lets just say that we won't be taking the scenic route again. :)

Cape Hatteras was really pretty. You could climb to the top of the lighthouse but it was very tall, no air conditioning, etc. We admired it from the ground. :)
Ferry #1 from Hatteras to Ocracoke.
When we got to Ocracoke, we knew we had another ferry to take to get back to the mainland. We didn't know, however, that this ferry left every 5 hours. So, we got there around 6:00 and had to wait around until 10:00 to leave. That ferry ride was 2 hours and 15 minutes and then we had another hour of driving after that to get to the beach house we were staying at that night (the family I nanny for has a family beach house and we were coming to spend the night with them). So we arrived there at 1:30am. It took us a few days to recover from this exhausting trip, but it was really fun and it came at just the right time.

Sounds like quite the roadtrip! How fun to stay at a beach house though! They seem like a nice family to nanny for. :)
